Cross Into Your Life
Hello. My name is John. I like to run.
One time when I went running in my neighborhood I noticed just how many churches and crosses there were on my running route. I began to wonder if maybe I should pay more attention. So I did. Kind of.
Once in a while, if I remembered to look up, I would think about the cross on the church I was running past and wonder if anyone was being inspired to pick up their own cross and carry it like Christ did. I wasn't ready to do that myself, so I just kept running.
Eventually, after many months of running and only occasionly noticing the crosses, one stopped me cold in my tracks. It was Good Friday. I was about half-way through my run when I saw it. The cross stood 10 feet high in the middle of the church yard. It was painted black as night. I felt like a knife went into my heart. Right then, I was inspired.
I realized right then and there that I was somehow drawn to the cross, but I still did not really grasp it's meaning. I think that Christ's cross, and His invitation to us to carry our own crosses is as much a mystery to me as it must have been to the rich young ruler in Luke's gospel.
This site is my effort to focus on the mystery of the cross and find the treasures that are contained in it. If you join me, I am sure you will discover your own treasure.
I hope you enjoy reading about the challenge that Christ puts to all of us - to pick up our cross and follow him. And I hope you enjoy the art.
This story is just the beginning of my journey. I have lots more to tell and more pictures to share. So, if you are like me when I was running by the churches and you find that you are not inspired, check back again in the near future. You never know, there might be a cross here that will stop you in your tracks.
