During the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus declares that, "You are the light of the world." (Mathew 5:14 NIV)
Imagine that. The Son of God announcing that you are the light of the world. Wow! That's big stuff. You, as you are. Don't hide your radiance under a basket. Don't let selfishness, greed, anger, pride or any other vice dim your light. Decide to shine out for the sake of others. For God the Father. For your neighbor. After all, you were made in the image of God, in His likeness. (Genesis 1:26 NIV)
Jesus wants you to be like Him. He says, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." (John 8:12 NIV)
Will you follow Jesus? That is the question. Only you can answer that. We know that is what Jesus wants. Jesus tells the rich young ruler to sell all he has, give to the poor and then to follow Jesus. The young man in Luke's Gospel wasn't ready. Are you?
Jesus provides quite a promise for those ready to follow: You will never walk in darkness. You will have the light of life. Eternal life!
When you follow Jesus you will be asked to do what you least would like to do. Yet, if you say yes, you will find that you have received what you most desired. Wow! Jesus really has a way of challenging His believers.
Are you ready? Say yes! Say YES!
I know you can do it! But more importantly Jesus knows you can do it. God the Father is ready to help you. Remember, "What is impossible for men is possible for God." (Luke 18:27 NIV)
Trust that the Father loves you. Trust that Jesus loves you. Trust that both, through the Holy Spirit, are waiting to help you to shine like the light of the world!

About the painting:
This is the first cross painting I ever did. I wanted to show a cross, not on fire, but burning from within. The cross is a brilliant light in this dark world.
So I surrounded the cross with dark colors and swirls of a threatening storm blowing all around. But the cross is way brighter than everything else. Like Christ, the cross lights the way.
The cross, though difficult at times, in not filled with darkness and despair. The cross of Christ and the cross you carry is filled with the radiance of love, mercy and peace. If only you would believe in the love of God the Father and trust in the mercy of God the Son and hope in the peace of God the Holy Spirit.
